What’s In A (blog) Name?

The story behind
Books, Interrupted

Ah, another book blogger. It sounds cute but can also come with an eye roll. Originally on Blogger and now on Squarespace, Books, Interrupted has gone through many iterations in the last 10+ years. You will continue to see topics focused on reading and books, interrupted by poetry, infertility, self-care, and more. Hence, the name.

I had launched the first iteration in 2008 as a college student. Back then, it was called <Insert Creative Title Here> as a nod to my inability and unwillingness to commit to a single topic. Noticing a trend yet? The tagline I used, "I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar," referenced my Browncoat status and love for cinema. For many years, it was a casual way to publicly share random musings with fleeting focuses on film reviews, college life, poetry, and family.

Fast forward 8 years to 2016 when I was in a slump and yet had a strong desire to find a new creative outlet. Then, I read Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book essentially changed my life and gave me the much-needed inspiration I was looking for.

A few days later, Books, Interrupted suddenly popped into my head during a brainstorming session. Books comes from my love of reading. Interrupted comes from me interrupting my reading with various other interests and projects. I completely revamped my Blogger site then and maintained it for about a year or so before taking a hiatus. If you’d like to see the posts I created while on Blogger, you can see them here.

In the 4 years since then, I focused my efforts on learning about self-care, meditation, bullet journals (aka bujo), navigating bookstagram (bookish Instagram), and reading A LOT more. When I decided to launch my own reading challenge, I figured it was time to revamp the blog. So here we are!

Welcome to the new chapter of Books, Interrupted. I’m so glad you’re here!
